7Zip is an open-source file archiver, that offers a the highest compression ratio, using the new f 7z format, which delivers compression results that are usually 30-50% better than standard ZIP. We tested it with a server log file, which compressed with ZIP had a file size of 18 mb and using 7-Zip was reduced to 8 mb (results may vary, depending on file type). In addition, 7Zip also supports 7z, ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB formats, so it can be used with all popular archive files as well. The program offers a basic file explorer interface and also integrates into the Windows right-click menu. It can be associated with any of the supported formats and also offers command-line support. Interface and additional features are fairly basic, but the compression ratio is outstanding.

Windows Live Messenger

One of the most used instant messenger clients in the world is Windows Live Messenger. Starting off our review with what most people download the essentials pack for is Messenger. This instant messenger client has gone through 15 changes and redesigns, protocol upgrades, rebranding, and many partnerships like Yahoo! Messenger and Facebook Chat.

Facebook Chat is one of the new additions in Windows Live Messenger, with the ability to talk to friends on Facebook without having to use a browser. Instant messages received from your Facebook contacts use the standard Messenger window, so your chats almost look identical to your real Messenger contacts', but you only have the ability to send text and emoticons. All your chats, including Facebook are now all grouped together in tabs, a much easier way to keep your contacts organized without having multiple windows flashing.

Thunder 7 迅雷7

China’s Tencent Software released the latest version of their famous download manager (Xunlei or Thunder 7 Version 7.1.8.2300) not so long ago. Despite its update, its consistency in ensuring high-speed download has never been questioned. However, recently Xunlei web portal has blocked external IPs (except from China, Hong Kong and Macau) from getting access to their pool of download resources (e.g. Gougou). It can still be used to download files from other resources. It includes support on direct http download, emule and torrents.

Another downside of the latest version is that Tencent has made it difficult to add other language packs. This could be their efforts to ensure that the software can only be used by the Chinese community. So you’ll just have to bear with the weird symbols if your OS didn’t support Chinese characters.

酷我音乐盒 KuWo ~ A music player that you don’t want to miss. My friend, introduced this wonderful music player to me. It is not just a music player that plays MP3 or WMA. You can download more than 1,000,000 songs, MV, lyrics from its song database free. The scrolling lyric is the best part that I like. You can also enable desktop style lyrics. I am listening to MP3 and watching the lyrics to sing while typing this post. It is great to have this wonderful music player. By the way, the music box is in Chinese.
